the criminology and criminal justice network
Research in academic context is most frequently aimed, in a self referential fashion, to other academics, forgetting an important part of the process: the influence on the public and the world outside.
The basic idea of this group is to extend the interest of the discipline outside the borders of academia to the general public.
Most of the times there seem to be a separation between what criminology "knows", what the public thinks and what the government does.
The intention is to start the dissemination and a productive communication between these three main actors of today's society.
It is time for academics to get out and disseminate outside of academia and make a real impact on the world.
The primary aims of this group are:
- Bring outside of the Academia the knowledge and critical thinking peculiar to criminology;
- Increase the involvement of the public with criminological issues.
The secondary aims:
- Increase personal communication skills.
- Foster the dialogue between academia and the public.
This is just a first draft/proposal, so please feel free to suggest/discuss more possibilities or ideas!
All the best,
Fabio

I am more than confident that the rest of the persons interested in the spread of the discipline will join as soon as there's something happening in here.
I am more than willing to start with a short self-presentation trying to work out what do we want from this group and take it from there to develop more ideas.
I am just interested in the (I've just learnt it's jargon) dissemination of the discipline to the general public in order to foster some critical thinking about what happens in people's everyday lives and avoid being fooled by more demagogic people.
Also, I would really like to find a way for criminology to come out of academia and make a real impact. But to do that I think there's a need to find the right mean. how could we achieve it?
I pass you the ball and let you bounce ideas, comments, suggestions among the others.
Best,
Fabio
