Hi everyone

I'm a Phd student in Sydney Australia  and have been interviewing prisoners about their expereince of the relationship between the  sentencing and imprisonment process, after quite a few years working in the criminal justice system as a solicitor and previously in social work, probation and paroleand rug and drug and alcohol work. Currently strugging with writing up my research methodology  any help gratefully accepted.

Hi, in relation to fieldnotes and prison research, notes are inavluable - even when you have tape recorded interviews as I have. The transcripts, which I tend to work on with the audio to remind me of the context and tone of the interview, are enhanced by my notes, sometimes of something like a casual conversation with a prison officer or a visitor , and they help create a context for your interviews by describing things that you may forget. I wish I'd taken more notes now!

Hi Natasha, sorry for the late reply. I'm in North West London and doing my PhD out of City University. You should really consider who is best to supervise your project and then balance it up with funding etc. etc.
