For a history of the war on drugs and the related money: see: P.C. van Duyne and M. Levi, Drugs and Money, Routledge 2005.

We analysed the partly religious roots of this war and the way public opinion/fear images has been manipulated from the very start. This manipulation has continued till the present, now also including the fear of the drug money in such a way that discussions are often more a matter of belief and defence of vested institutional interests.
